stream Flashy Python’s new record

(I don’t have any relevant pictures so I picked this bird one instead of infringing on peoples’ copyrights)

it sounds (unsurprisingly) kind of like they just put Alec Ounsworth’s voice on a Dr. Dog record. but maybe that’s not a bad thing.

you can stream the whole album and download a free song here. and buy it of course. but why not listen before you buy/illegally download it off the internet?

big names, little blog

the past couple of weeks have seen some big indie front-men going solo. first came the cryptic but kind of fascinating video above from Julian Casablancas of the Strokes. now, I know that the Strokes are sort of mainstream, but I still enjoy their albums and the Strokes were one of the first “indie” bands I heard way back in early high school. (cue nostalgia about “Reptilia”  and cutting class in the newspaper room)

as for what this album is going to sound like, who knows. but I’m excited to see because that Casablancas has a pretty cool voice and that video is pretty mysterious.

also announced (the day after) was Alec Ounsworth’s (of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah glory) solo debut. it was recorded in New Orleans so it might be jazzy. BUT there’s also another album under the weird-but-cool name Flashy Python that’s supposed to have members of the Walkmen and Dr. Dog and Man Man on it! which is pretty darn exciting. Pitchfork posted a long interview with Ounsworth but I can’t decipher when the Flashy Python album comes out, so if you know, please leave me a comment.

in other news: I’m going to start working on the July podcast very soon and I’m taking off to the mountains for playtime/manual labor the first week of August so I’ll see if I can whip up another mini-mix. xoxo!
