what i read on my summer vacation

that picture is just the greatest. (via HRO)

I know I normally talk about music or whatever but I’ve had a lot of free time on my hands to get some reading done this summer so I wanted to brag/recommend. but I’ll be courteous and put it behind a jump so you don’t have to look at it if you just want the music stuff.

WARNING: xtreme pretension ahead!

what I’ve been reading:

This Side of Paradise – Fitzgerald. not my favorite Fitzgerald. apparently it is sort of autobiographical though?

Babylon Revisited & other stories – Fitzgerald. much better! I prefer his short stories I think.

The Master and Margarita – Bulgakov. maybe my new favorite book of all time. it took me a long time to start but really took me over once I got going. absolutely brilliant.

God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater – Vonnegut. a birthday gift from a friend, not my favorite Vonnegut (Hocus Pocus) but still very good.

The Time Machine – Wells. I’m starting to get a thing for old school sci-fi.

The Invisible Man – Wells. surprisingly frightening.

+ about a million Agatha Christie novels because I’m an old lady.

and I just started Nabokov’s Laughter in the Dark but I’m not very invested in it so I might not finish. we’ll see.
